As a Program Associate in Reboot’s West Africa office, Maria manages research activities and builds strong partner relationships across our media development and open governance portfolios. She draws on skills in communications and advocacy to contribute a user-centric lens to our team’s program design, research, and implementation.
Maria comes to Reboot with experience in film, theater, and radio production. Prior to joining Reboot, she managed a team of creatives to design sets for EbonyLife TV, Africa’s first global Black entertainment and lifestyle network. She also worked with the nonprofits Population Media Centre and Wildlife Conservation Society, using her skills as a voiceover artist to produce radio programs on health and environmental conservation. These experiences strengthened her interest in how media companies can be a force for social good.
As a leader in the global, student-run organization AIESEC, Maria designed strategies to increase participation in exchange programs for business-related internships across the globe. She has written for This Day, an independent Nigerian newspaper, and an international start-up magazine based in Abuja.
Although Maria’s family comes from Cross River State, near Nigeria’s southeastern border with Cameroon, she has spent most of her life in Okene, in Kogi State, known in Nigeria for its iron ore deposits. She holds a degree in Theatre and Media Studies from the University of Calabar. Her motto is “Everything is an Experience.”
